Synopsis

Product Description
Erik Hinds of Athens, Georgia is active as a composer, performer, and promoter of a wide range of music. He plays quartertone electric guitar and the H'arpeggione, an upright acoustic instrument with 12 sympathetic strings. Erik focuses on the raw sound of his strings in all their microtonal glory; his style blends primitive folk, heavy metal, and sacred musics from around the world into a distinct voice. A solo acoustic cover of Slayer's classic ?Reign In Blood?, this project began a while back as a wink-wink challenge by a good friend. Translating this to a solo acoustic instrument, the H'arpeggione, without the benefit of lyrics, meant the music would have to take on its own character. What resulted draws from Hind?s background as a free improviser, and an attempt to highlight the contours of the original without imposing anything not suggested by Slayer themselves. Hind?s take liberty with tempo, dynamics, color, key, and other attributes only to honor the! initial spark that gave life to their brilliant collection of controlled entropy.

"i picked this album up despite the fact that i am not a slayer fan.. i am however a fan of solo acoustic music as well as a fan of thought provoking artistic innovation.. the idea of an acoustic cover of a rock or metal song is not new of course.. many pay hommage to those who have come before.. the best of these seems to be the ones that are reactionary but also expansive.. taking their own path from the material already structured.. sensitivity is essential to compliment a creation.. respect is beautiful but when you can actually add to the initial equation it then becomes a piece of art in itself.. not only to compliment its origin but also to stand on its own.. erik hind.s album is a sensitive and rich piece of music that bows as well as rises up..

(i would love to hear more occuring in this hybrid genre)"
