Happily, there seems to be a Satie Renaissance afoot; and the brilliant Slovenian pianist Bojan Gorisek is on the cutting-edge of this re-birth.
I am extremely enthusiastic about Gorisek's issue of Satie's Dadaist works on the lovely British label LTM. For after much audition of several slightly differing interpretations by various artists, have come to realize that Satie--like Chopin--requires a very specialized insight for superior performances: meaning, some pianists "get" Satie, and some really don't.
In this case, Gorisek gets him big-time with deeply insightful readings which really "see" Satie's unique vision: ebb and flow; forte et piano; architechtonics of melodic structure, etc. Satie's subtle art requires the superb vision and execution which Gorisek brings.
This is ESPECIALLY true of Satie's Dada pieces. Some players simply plow through them and in some cheesy manner attempt to effect some kind of humorous incongruity. Whereas Gorisek, on the other hand, has the vision and technique to reveal the innate beauty and charm of these pieces: this is real Art.
