"Don't dance....sit down and think! Erika always gives you food for thought through her original lyrics. "Southern Girl" is no exception. Like a real down home girl, she boasts of liking everything fried. Her mantra: Not to fry is to die, even tofu! You can't get much more original than that! The beat is hypnotically soothing accented with a clever and unexpected onomatopoeia...Buzzzzzzzzzz! So much is going on & on...from the home of the burning church....to the mouth of the teeth of gold..., she forces you on to step inside her world...What more could you ask of any artist?"

"This song really had to grow on me. I love anything Erykah Badu puts her hand on. I love the way she thinks, but when I heard Southern Girl. She really threw me for a loop. This song represents what she stated on VH1 once, "I recycle trash and turn it into art". You definitely have to appreciate the artist in Erykah. I can't wait for her entire album to be released."
