Synopsis

Album Description
The Eternal formed in 2003 from the ashes of renowned underground Melbourne doom band Cryptal Darkness. The Eternal strive to successfully combine the primal excitement and energy of a cohesive rhythm section with strong vocal and guitar melodies, and the symphonic atmosphere of layered keyboards. A wide range of vocal styles and intricate guitar harmonies gives the group its varied yet distinct sound. Their debut album for Firebox The Sombre Light of Isolation was released in June 2004, and received glowing reviews in both mainstream and underground media. The follow-up, recorded early in 2005, Sleep of Reason both defines and extends The Eternal's sound from their debut work. Less convoluted than its predecessor, it packs 11 songs into 59 minutes. Sleep of Reason was produced and recorded by Estonian guitar virtuoso Endel Rivers (Black Majesty, Vanishing Point) at Palm Studios in Melbourne, and mastered by Mika Jussila (Amorphis, Nightwish, Therion) at Finnvox Studios in Helsinki. Firebox. 2005.

(5 out of 5 stars)

"The Eternal have managed to successfully top their last release with their latest effort titled 'Sleep of Reason'. This fine disc shows the band expanding their style while still managing to acheive a dark, atmospheric feel throughout the disc. This band has been receiving more and more attention as of late and with two fine cd's under their belt, it's not hard to see why."
