"This is a good choice. Technically at a very good standard, the strong point of this recording is definitily the musical sensitivy shown by L.M. at her approach. There are many recordings from various violinists, one can find a technically better one. But with L.M. you will hear a musician performing these challenging pieces, not just a very good violinist. I reccomend it : You will enjoy the full range of colours at her sound, the singing quality that you can find even in the most difficult virtuosic passages."
Superb cd

"The above review says that Mordkovitch's sound is too rough, I can assure you this is rubbish. Mordkovitch plays these sonatas with passion, fire, artistry and sensitivity, they are a real joy to listen to and do the music complete justice. She plays like a musician from the heart. I strongly reccomend this cd."

"To say that she doesnt have the technique is totally wrong, one can hear that she plays the most difficult passages perfectly. Though I cannot stand her rough and careless interpretation of these well-crafted solo sonatas. Its true that everyone plays too refined these days, but Mordkovitch really pays no attentiion whatsoever to the rhythm, structure, and especially the intimate harmany which makes these pieces so neat. Whether she does it on purpus and tries to be different? or she simply knows the sonatas "too well" that she couldnt be bothered? or she didnt have enough time to record? I don't know!
If you are new to Ysaye sonatas or any kind of solo violin repertoire, avoid this cd as it will give you the totally wrong concept of the soundworld of solo violin playing. But if you are a violinist or you know these pieces well, you will hate it at first but I recommend you to listen to them and learn the limitations of our instrument and how far could one go without dissconecting with the audience. It will also be a special cd for those who plays the violin very careful and stylishly to listen to, you may think this is bold and aggresive (like myself), but there are many ways to survive as a soloist."
An insult to the composer

"Her sound is too rough, unmusical, and just simply ugly. Let alone her iterpretation, countless notes are out of tune in some of them. I was very surprised the recording company allowed her to play through all six of them. Some patience! Horrible technique, and musicality. I am an Ysaye fanatic and own quite number of his Solo Sonata recordings and this is by far the worst one among them. I personally recommend Michael Rabin's(although only 2 of these sonatas were recorded, no.3, 4)"
