Good Introduction to the Everly Brothers

""50 Years of Hits" is a good introduction to the Everly Brothers, including all of their best-known songs. The title, though, is mystifying, as this collection only spans about 10 years (1957-1968) and the Everlys haven't had a hit (or even released an album) since the 80s, with "On the Wings of a Nightingale," which does not appear on this collection. So the title is misleading and rather strange.
The album runs nearly 80 minutes with 34 songs, but, as with any anthology, one can always quibble with song choice. I would have liked to see more Cadence material, and some different songs from the Warner era, such as "That's Old-Fashioned." Also, this is an import album from Rhino UK, so it focuses more on their UK hits, as the liner notes indicate. But Rhino's US career anthology of the Everlys, The Definitive Pop Collection, only includes 30 songs and is spread over 2 discs, which is annoying. Overall, "50 Years of Hits" is a good sampling of the Everly Brothers' prime recording years. Recommended.
P.S. As an import album, the cost is prohibitive for just one disc, but it is possible to obtain this album at a much more reasonable price (as I did)."
