"Eydie Gorme has had several successful careers: concert performer and Las Vegas favorite, solo recording artist, duo recording artist (with her very talented husband Steve Lawrence), and Spanish language recording artist. Steve and Eydie were among the first recording artists I ever listened to--my parents had one of their early albums; I helped wear it out. What an wonderful surprise, when, around 1993, dropping in on a Latin dance class, I heard a familiar, lovely voice singing a song that has the words: "Somos un sueno impossible que busca la noche..." {"We are an impossible dream in search of the night!"] I instantly recognized it as the great Eydie Gorme. At that point, I wasn't aware that Ms. Gorme sang and recorded in Spanish. Well, I vowed to locate the cd that featured that "Somos" song. These were the days before I was hooked up to the internet, so the search wasn't nearly as easy as it would have been today. My efforts paid off when I stumbled upon the album ESO ES EL AMOR in a record store. And what a delight to find that "Somos" isn't the only highlight on the album. In fact, this album is loaded with highlights from start to finish. And, Ms. Gorme's voice has never sounded warmer, rounder and richer. Featured is a heaping handful of boleros, those wonderful Latin slow dance numbers, the rousing title song [which could fit on a Miami Sound Machine album], a few duets, including one where she is joined by Mr. Lawrence, also singing in Spanish ["Si No Estuvieras Tu"], a fun and very pretty song about a bull who is enamored of the moon ["La Luna y El Toro"}, and a very interesting Spanish/English "new" version of the standard "Day By Day [I'm Falling More in Love with You]," plus several more gems. This album is a complete delight, loaded with romance, Latin textures and beautiful orchestrations by the late, great Bebu Silvetti [who also arranged for Luis Miguel on his ROMANCES albums] and featuring incredibly warm, soulful delivery by Ms. Gorme, whose voice is truly a gift to the music world. This album has provided countless hours of enjoyment for me, as it will for you!! Also excellent for those wanting to learn a few Spanish words. VIVA LA DIVA!"
