"Debris"...Ronnie Lane snags the best track on this classic.

"Ronnie Lane's poignant ode to his dad..."Debris"...is the killer track on this album. Stewart's BEST vocals are the background vocals he provides on this track. That's a pretty bold claim when you're talking about an album that includes "Miss Judy's Farm," "Stay With Me," "Too Bad," "That's All You Need"...but it's a fact. The late, great Ronnie Lane provided a much-needed "McCartney sweetness" counterpoint to Stewart's rooster-haired strutting, and that combination (along with the unstoppable Ronnie Wood) made this band magic. They pulled off one more...the lesser "Ooh La La"...and Ronnie Lane headed south. Free's Tetsu Yamauchi gamely stepped in to fill the void, but with all due respect, he was "just a bass player." After a sloppy live album, Faces faded away and Stewart became a cartoon of his former self. But on THIS album, you have an ample opportunity to understand what the hype was all about."

"Here's my story-
My aunt gave me the records from her collection that she no longer listens to about 10 years ago, and this was one of them. I went in knowing absolutely nothing about the Faces. I just figured back then the Faces were some hippie band that nobody remembers so they weren't important and weren't worth my time. Of course that way of thinking was flat out WRONG I admit, because nowadays I actually prefer finding out about the less popular 70's rock bands that never got the same kind of success that Led Zeppelin or Santana did, such as Humble Pie, Blues Image, Sugarloaf, Birth Control, and Comus.
Anyway, I popped this album on the turntable, and after a while, I thought I heard what sounded like Rod Stewart's voice. I thought to myself "No way Rod was a member of another band, because no one ever talks about them". After listening some more I realized it WAS in fact Rod Stewart, because nobody else has that kind of voice. And I mean *nobody*!
Then another thought occurred to me. "This is actually better than the Rod Stewart stuff you hear on the radio". The stuff he does on here certainly ROCKS more than the tunes radio stations frequently play. When we arrived to "Stay With Me" I knew it was in fact good ol' Rod Stewart.
That wasn't the only surprise though.
The fact that side two absolutely SMOKES and leaves me breathless every time I hear those songs is still something I'll never forget. If you're not amazed with the closing track... well, then you're a hard person to please!
Whatever the popular belief is, I know what *I* believe, and that would be A Nod is as Good as a Wink is a classic rock album that everyone should own."
