Outstanding piece

"Yeah, most folks think of the earlier Faron Young, but this selection is outstanding. Faron has few peers, and even fewer imitators; he was that good. His early stuff (and I recommend the 5 cd box set very highly) is what comes to our minds (ie, Hello Walls, Goin' Steady, and Live Fast) when we think of Faron Young; but he was constantly evolving. And this selection covers Faron's move to cover the dying "Bakersfield Sound" being vacated by Buck Owens (after the untimely death of Don Rich). Of course, the smooth and refined voice remains, but the beer-joint sound and those amazing fiddles make this a "must-have" album. Enjoy"
Excellent overview of his Mercury years

"This is a very good selection of honkytonker Faron Young's work on the Mercury label, gathering hits from 1964-71. This isn't a period most hard country fans think highly of, but there were still some real gems that came out, and the record's producers cherry-picked the best of them. Definitely worth checking out."
