Product Description2017 release. One of the greatest political upheavals in British history took place in the 17th and 18th centuries, when followers of the house of Stuart plotted against the ruling Hanoverians with the aim of returning King James II of England (also James VII of Scotland), and later his descendants, to the throne. King James was the last catholic monarch of Britain, and his eventual exit was the end of centuries of religious strife, although on a sectarian level, these divisions continue in parts of the country today. King James' son, known to all and sundry as bonnie Prince Charlie, has become a cultural icon, who even affected the Beatles. Their first single was a rocked up version of a song called 'My Bonnie', which bemoaned the fact that Prince Charles was "over the ocean". Barbara Dixon, Archie Fisher and John MacKinnon have done a remarkable job in collecting together a whole album's worth of songs from the Jacobite rebellions, and this album can be enjoyed both as a work of art and a historical document!
