Reissue of 1958's "Heavenly Sounds in Hi-Fi"

"Though this looks like just another Ferrante & Teicher LP, it's actually a partial reissue of their stellar 1958 ABC Paramount release "Heavenly Sounds in Hi-Fi" (ABCS-221). Though the tracks are reordered, and only 10 of the original 12 are included (missing are "The Moon Was Yellow" and "Stardust"), this is still a nice buy, and the only place these tracks can be found together.1958 saw Ferrante and Teicher still experimenting with the techniques they'd worked on as faculty members at Julliard. Though they'd later reduce their work to slushy two-piano renditions of famous movie themes, in 1958 they were still outside, wedging things into their piano strings and extracting all manner of unusual sounds from their instruments.A very listenable LP, mixing a romantic ambiance with edgy sounds."

"For those who didn't know, this is the only CD reissue of their 1958 LP "Heavenly Sounds in Hi-Fi". It was smack in the middle of their experiments with altering the pianos inside and out to widen the sound-making possibilities a la John Cage, but submitting standards to that avant-garde treatment. It's arguably the best of their LP's in this style. Unfortunately the cheap price precluded them reproducing the stunning original artwork. If you didn't know otherwise, there's nothing to make you think this is even a reissue. That said, enjoy!"

"It's precisely the drawn tempos, the otherworldly juxtaposition of twin pianos and celeste, and even the shocking (and loud!) inclusion of a sine-wave generator as an accent in the middle of an etherial ballad, that makes this one of the most--I'll say it again--etherial recordings ever made. I'm convinced F&T's prep'd piano recordings came from the same lunar recording studio as the one obviously frequented by early Slim Whitman and Lucia Pamela.Sure, it's not the schmaltzy pap you might have wanted to hear from these gentlemen, but what you got instead was a peek into the duo before the almighty dollar sucked their judgement (not to mention their arrangements) dry. Compelling listening for anyone with eclectic tastes in music. And for that price, there's little to lose in trying!"
