"Funny how I keep digging and continously search for lost gems. I never knew who Yusef "Fesu" Cross, until I purchased an old Source magazine. He received a great review (they said his album was "Slammin'"), and thought that I should check it out, and I'm very glad that I did.
Fesu is one of those rappers who rhymes pays to the 5% and street life. The biggest suprise is that he is from Greenspoint, Texas (in the Houston area). Like the reviewer below me, he is nowhere near other Texas rappers, even for 1994 standards. To give an accurate idea of who he is, I would say he is a southern version of Lord Jamar from Brand Nubian, but with more intensive lyrics. Every song on this album here has a meaning and is guranteed to impress you. The title track really sealed the deal for how great this album was going to be. "Scariest M.F. Gonna Shoot" and "Going Off The Deep End" really ties into street life and how his life was inside of his home with his disfunctional family. "Going In Circles" goes into more detail as well. "Goosebumps" is a funny sex track. "Blind-Cripple & Crazy" and "Uncut Funk" are other great standouts on this album.
Basically, you can expect a lot of 5% related topics here on this album, all ranging in different topics. As mentioned before, I was highly impressive with this album. Some of the production lacks, probably because it was an independent release, and I guess there was very little money backed behind this. Fesu's rhymes really carry the weight here on this album. This is one I highly recommend to those fans of 90's hip hop. Peace.
