Synopsis

Album Description
Limited edition two disc (CD + PAL/Region 0 DVD). Finntroll, the raunchy so-and-so's of the crippled Folk Metal scene, are back with a twist. This concept album ( the translated title: From the Depths of the Earth) was recorded at Sonic Pump Studios with Nino Laurenne (Ensiferum, Kiuas, Thunderstone) in October 2006, and is the fourth full- length album from the band. Produced by Trollhorn and Tundra, this album delivers a rather unique mixture of Black Metal, Folk Music, Punk, and gods-know-what, ranging from epic classical symphonies into sheer meringue- inspired brutality with a hint or three of pure madness and creative songwriting. The DVD features behind the scenes footage, performances, etc. Century Media.

CD Reviews

I dare you to read my review and not be blown away

(5 out of 5 stars)

"If you don't already know Finntroll combines black metal and Finnish folk music like hummpa and it will have you bangin' your head and tapping your foot at the same time. Anyways I have to say that I love this cd and I have listened to it many times since I got it yesterday. They still have that same ol' Finntroll sound but this doesn't sound like any of their other cd's which is good. The metal aspects of their music sounds a little bit heavier and darker than their previous cd but don't worry because it's still full of that silly hummpa and they even throw in a solo. They also added in a little more folkish elements to some of their songs. Their new singer is also good and he pulls off being a good replacement which is great because I was a little worried when I heard they got a new singer but they always seem to get good singers or shriekers.

The intro track really pumps you up for the rest of the songs and it shows you what your in store for. The rest of the songs are fast energetic and in your face which will have you bouncing up and down. Thier last track is a peaceful instrumental piece and after like 8 mintues of silence they start so sing which sounds like a bunch of drunks at a bar.

They got their original vocalist to write the lyrics for this cd and inside the booklette he says he wrote a tale about symbolic death and rebirth and the war against ones self. It's just too bad that they didn't include English translations with their Swedish lyrics. The DVD doesn't have any behind the scenes footage but it shows them live in concert playing Nattfodd and Den Iskalla Trollblodet which is just okay. The DVD is region free and in PAL format. This CD DVD package comes in a Digipak.

I would recommend this to any Finntroll fan old or new and to any one who likes fast energetic metal that doesn't take itself too seriously."
