"fisherspooner is currently the band everyone loves to hate in nyc. they set up elaborate stage settings in order to put on 15-minute shows. they got something like $2 million for their first album. they've played art galleries as well as music venues. there's an expensive, elaborate video for 'emerge' on the cd in addition to the tracks.fisherspooner is widely credited with being one of the first on the electroclash bandwagon. the sound is very 1982, lots of electronic beeps and clicks, emotionally detached vocals, nonsensical lyrics. you can almost hear the tongues being thrust into so many cheeks. they're similar to other electroclash acts from the new york scene, especially adult. and miss kitten.but as a person with many duran duran and adam ant albums in my collection, i can honestly say i love this album. yes, its shallow. yes, we've heard it all before. but its still good. 'emerge' or 'sweetness' would mix easily into any gary numan track; and kraftwerk is clearly an influence if not an actual collaborator. i love this album as much as all my techno-loving raver friends hate it. its cynical and beautiful at the same time."
