Piano Circus is a group of six pianists who cater their interests to new music, particularly minimalism. Fitkin wanted to do more with his music in these three works than simply be repetitious, such as the music of Steve Reich and Philip Glass. Fitkin instead uses distinct musical ideas with a more focussed harmonic rhythm to give a work a strong cohesion. Log, Line, and Loud are separate one-movement pieces of dancing moods and juxtaposed harmonies, all on six pianos. This is very engaging music, perhaps a harbinger of the next generation of minimalists. --Paul Cook
