"I first heard of Flashlight Brown after finiding them on cdnow.com. I wasn't sure what to think when I first heard them but they had a different sound that wasn't like things that are out now. I went to the cd store and got it for 10 bucks which is never bad. At first I really didn't like the cd, but after a couple listens it grows on you and now it's one of my favorites."
Partying + talent + nerd-core goodness = Flashlight Brown

"Fun, raw energy and suave are what make Flashlight Brown an on-stage riot and their first release on Hollywood Records, "My Degeneration" one of the best albums of 2003. Packed with eleven tracks of quotable lines, catchy tunes and upbeat riffs, this CD proves Flashlight to be anything than just another generic 3-chord pop punk band. Not often does a band display as much lyrical creativity and diversity as this Canadian nerd-core quartet who sings just about any and everything from CPU troubleshooting, D & D and elementary school gender confusion to of course, girls. With a comedic narrative style similar to Nerf Herder's, Flashlight uses vivid images:"Midnight, torchlight down in the haunted cave/Get some platinum the D.M. will turn the page/Check out my thief he's got the black shield/Check out my sickly cave tan" (#1, Ready to Roll)... gives descriptive flashbacks:"Figured it'd be fine when I hit grade nine/And I'd grow a big beard really soon/Till the first day of gym when I met Father Tim/And he sent me to the girl's change room" (#7, Praise the Day)...and sings about love, in the matter of anything but whiney-emo:"Cops are asking questions but I don't care/Doing time will prove my love is true/She said 'Hey you psycho get the *** away from me!'/I couldn't deny that in the end I'll only make you cry" (#6, I'll Only Make You Cry, which is uber catchy and my personal favourite)There you have it. "My Degeneration" is a must-listen for anyone who appreciates good clean witty fun, and music that you can sing along and rock out to."
