Amazon.comHow odd that the members of the Flip Squad All Star DJs chose that name, because the crew isn't a collection of DJs, as the name implies, but a stage for new and old MCs. Somewhere between the divide of the old school and new school, the beats took a back seat to the boastful MC. As Flip Squad prove, this brings mixed results. On "Only Time You Love 'Em," the record's requisite "bitches and hos" track, Mark Ronson and the Ghetto Inmates go through the motions rapping about sex and money with a furious fervor. But the album's gem is Biz Markie, who demonstrates how good hip-hop can be with a melody, a clever rap, and a phat beat. Raps the old-school master in his trademark rasp: "I'm the king of the rap. Every time you hear me, I put the others to shame." Indeed. --Tricia Romano
