"Ahhh, my freshman year in college. An introduction to Servedriver, Velocity Girl, 13 Engines, etc and of course, FLOP. This album turned out to be one of the real sweethearts of my deck. It's a true american original. The album can be incredibly soupy at times but A Wylie, Julie Francavilla, Parts I & II, The Great Valediction and Mendel's White Trash Laboratory make it all worth while. It's a no frills, no filler album and really stands up well over ten years after it's release. The poppy sounds avoided the pop punk scene and it probably stands best beside the emo of the time (Jawbox et al, not the pop-punk cum emo of today). The tempo and strange structure shifts enhance the album and ensure that there is always more to hear with each listen."
