Best Tribute to Lonsome Dave and Company to Date

"This anthology is a great tribute to the boys of Foghat. While I would have liked to have seen more of their work from Stone Blue and earlier, such as "Chevorlet" and "Sweet Home Chicago" instead of "Live now, pay later" and "Somebody's been sleeping in my bed", this still is a great CD for the money. Disk 1 is a travelog of the bands career through the seventies and disk 2 is the entire self-titled debut album remastered. The sound quality is great and the liner notes are enlightening ( such as why the name Foghat for the band). Bottom line on this set is value and you will get your moneys worth here just as you did every time yo got to see them live. I would recommend both "Road cases" and the new "King Biscuit Flower Hour" to enjoy the boys at their Boogie Best!"
Foghat 2 CD set for the price of one. What a deal!

"This 2 cd set was too good to pass up. You receive the anthology disk plus as a bonus their first lp reissued on cd for the first time. The Rhino "Greatest Hits" disk issued a few years ago contains 16 tracks while this set contains 24 songs for the same price. Foghat was formed by members of the overlooked Savoy Brown after the release of their great "Looking In" lp. Vocalist/guitarist Lonesome Dave Peverett left Savoy Brown along with bassist Tony Stevens and drummer Roger Earl and hooked up with ex-Black Cat Bones guitarist Rod Price to form Foghat. Their first lp "Foghat" (included here as a bonus disk) was released in 1972. The band specialized in hard hitting British blues/boogie. Rod Price proved to be an excellent addition who often unleashed his slide guitar playing skills. While not very popular in their home country they reached a peak in popularity in the United States during the mid seventies as their best known song "Slow Ride" (included here) shot up the charts. Eventually with the rise of punk rock their popularity waned and they broke up. They reformed during the early nineties and released 2 lps. They were making a comeback when Lonesome Dave died of cancer.Highlights of the set include "Fool For The City", "My Babe", "Road Fever", "Eight Days On The Road" and "Home In My Hand" to name a few. The second disk contains such notable cuts as covers of Muddy Water's "I Just Want To Make Love To You", Chuck Berry's "Maybelline" and a remake of a great track they wrote while in Savoy Brown "Leavin' Again (Again)". This set contains the majority of the cuts that are found on the Rhino "Greatest Hits" disk. However, I miss the track "Ride, Ride, Ride" which is on that disk. Their are a few favorites like "Chevrolet", "Sweet Home Chicago", "Terraplane Blues", and "Down The Road Apiece" which are nowhere to be found on either the Rhino "Greatest Hits" disk or this 2 cd "Anthology" set. If you are a fan of gritty British blues rock you should pick this bargain up immediately before it goes out of print. Castle who issued this set is apparently reissuing all of the individual Foghat lps as 2 cd sets. I would recommend "Live" and "Fool For The City" if you enjoyed this set."
I don't want live versions only

"this would be a perfect anthology, except Slow Ride and Fool For The City are both live cuts, and they're the only versions on this album. there's no mention of this on the outside of the album, and to be honest i feel cheated, i would have never bought this album knowing that the only versions of Slow Ride and Fool included were live versions, i want the real thing. i won't be buying any more Foghat stuff anytime soon."
Don't bother!!!!!!!

"This two CD package is not really an anthlogy but just a compulation of their best songs from their last 4 albums together--straight boogie and boring songs. The 2nd CD is great to have--the 1st album (when they were great) but none of the 2nd, third or fourth album cuts were included except Slow Ride. Foghat was more divirse than just boogie cuts--they played blues, blues rock and some great straight out rock songs. I would just get the Greatest Hits Volume 1 and 2 CDs if you want a good sample of their work--and get the 1st & 2nd albums separately on CD--they are available."
