CD ReviewsDYNAMITE! Mike Warden | Tarkio, Mo. USA | 02/15/2002 (5 out of 5 stars) "It sure is good to see the old fellas rocking again, and nowhere is this more evident than with FOGHAT and "Road Cases." This is a great live recording, with Foghat smoking just like they usually always do. This jam starts out with a rousing rendition of "I just want to make love to you", followed immediately by what I believe to be the best song on the set, "Driving Wheel." Their version of DW lasts up to almost eight minutes long and just flat out rocks! The fifth track "Sweet Home Chicago" is indicative of just why Foghat always stayed true to their blues roots. They were always appreciative of the blues, and SHC is pure in its content. This concert was recorded live at the Roseland Theater in Portland Oregon, on the 25th and 26th of Oct. 1996. The crowd is very enthusiastic, and Foghat does not disappoint their audience. Peverett and Price trade licks throughout this entire set, and the duo guitar attack will blow back your ears! Price does get a little carried away with the slide guitar on occasion, but this recording will show anybody what a true blues rock band is capable of. The line up at the time of this recording consisted of "Lonesome" Dave Peverett-Lead vocals and guitar- Rod Price-Lead slide guitar and vocals-Tony Stevens-Bass and vocals-with the ever dependable Roger Earl on drums. A powerful line up, that packed a terrific punch. Foghat did not care if they played too loud, that was their trademark, and they stuck with it, critics be [fooled]. Tracks #9 "Fool for the City" (another one that flat out ROCKS!) and #10, the Foghat anthem "Slowride" are performed with magnetic enthusiasm on this CD. There are also two additional studio tracks provided with this album "Angel Of Mercy" and "Tear you Down" ( a somewhat softer side of Foghat, but still very good). What one gets here is unapologetic, fast driving hard rock, with a couple guys that can also sing. Lonesome Dave is no longer with us. He succumbed to kidney cancer about eighteen months ago, after a long struggle with that disease. However,"Road Cases" is a wonderful testament to a band that made no apologies about what they believed in (blues) combined with a hard edge. If you do not get up and boogie with a little air guitar during "Driving Wheel" or "Fool for the City" you should be declared legally dead. I'll even sign your death certificate." Another Great Foghat Concert Recording cd-heaven | 11/11/2003 (5 out of 5 stars) "ROAD CASES is another great Foghat concert preserved for posterity. Most of the songs are great, but there is a bit of filler, and I could do without the two studio cuts. Overall, you should own this one, but only if you already have FOOL FOR THE CITY, LIVE, NIGHT SHIFT, ENERGIZED, ROCK AND ROLL OUTLAWS, and FOGHAT (ROCK AND ROLL)." THIS IS THE BEST LIVE ALBUM OF FOGHAT Jean Louis Neveu | france | 01/27/2010 (5 out of 5 stars) "DEAR FOGHAT FANS
YOU LIKE "foghat live"? YOU LIKE "foghat king biscuit hour"? So you'll love this album ! the sound is terrific ( that bass !!) and the set list perfect: all foghat classics and 2 unrealeased studio tracks ( not fillers but good songs); and the band is the historic band ( LONESOME DAVE / TONY STEVENS/ ROGER EARL / and the mad slide guitar of ROD PRICE)this record "smells good" / friendship , good audience, fun ,madness, pleasure to be on stage : authenticity; IF YOU HAVE JUST 3 RECORDS OF FOGHAT TO BUY : buy ROAD CASES / FOGHAT LIVE/ and the best studio album :STONE BLUE. THAT S JUST MY PERSONNAL ADVICE !! but i know a little what i'm talking about when i talk about 70'S US HARD ROCK!!! " |
