"Four Stars = Classic



"Rock and Roll Outlaws", along with "Night Shift" are the two dark horses in Foghat's catalog, & the two best ones, I believe. People tend to think of "Fool for the City," & "Energized" when they think Foghat. Good albums they are, but I'll take the former two, "Rock and Roll Outlaws" & "Night Shift," all day long over those.



I turned on to Foghat in the mid 70's. The first album I got from them & the one I still think is best is "Rock and Roll Outlaws. This album is full of straight ahead heavy blues/boogey/rock, & probably their most energetic & heaviest album as a whole. It includes the killer "Eight Days on the Road," metallic & shiny with sharp hooks to stick in your brain. The namesake song "Rock and Roll Outlaws" is a rollicking rocking tune, its chorus will stick in you head for days! The ballad, "Trouble in my Way," is a reflective thoughtful song; it is as good as a ballad as you're apt to hear from Foghat. "Shirley Jean" & "Blue Spruce Woman," are Foghat at their boogie best, filled with memorable hooks, guitars, & rhythm. "Hate to See You Go" & "Dreamer," are straight out rockers. The last song on this album "Chateau Lafitte '59 Boogie," is just that, one undisputedly great hard rocking, hard drinking, boogey song. My favorite of the album & my favorite song of alcoholic debauchery ever! It helped send me on the road to beer, booze, & womanizing! God I love that song!





All in all, "Rock and Roll Outlaws," is not to be missed for anyone that likes Foghat, but is not familiar with this album. So get your beer, whiskey, & wine. You'll need it, & turn the stereo up loud!
