CD Reviews

The beginning of the end of Foghat
Mawkie | 05/21/2007
(2 out of 5 stars)

"Like so many other bands that really rocked in the late 70's but released wimpy music as the 80's began (and, thus, were never as popular as they had been), Foghat decided to change its music style and sound with "Tight Shoes", and it was a big mistake.

After issuing what I think are their two best albums -- "Live" and "Stone Blue" in the late 70's, Foghat was at its peak of popularity. Instead of building on it by continuing its brand of loud and kick-butt blues-style rock, they went "new wave" with this one. "Tight Shoes" contains very bland songs, nothing bluesy, and the production is very weak...guitars sound nothing like the way they used to on previous albums.

I bought this album when it first came out, expecting more of what they'd released before, but was thoroughly disappointed. Don't waste your money buying this, nor should you buy any of their other albums from the 80's.

(Update: With Charlie Huhn and Bryan Bassett taking the place of Lonesome Dave and Rod Price, the current version of Foghat [2008] would make Dave and Rod proud...these guys kick butt playing Foghat's classic tunes live...go see them if you have the chance!!)"
Little known album,kickin' band.

"I used to have this release on both cassette and lp...kicked majorly then, kicks even moreso now with the remastered audio. The only gripe is,and it's very minor, that there are no bonus tracks (demos, single edits,ect.)-but that's a real minor gripe."
Great band hitting a different stride

"This is a great CD. As each new album was met with declining sales this was a great departure for the band. I love almost everything Foghat produced but particularly enjoyed Tight Shoes. Dave P took control of this project and kicked some serious butt, displaying the bands slow blues with a twist."
