"This is a strange and atypical Foghat album. It doesn't sound like anything else they've done. It is NOT the rock 'n' roll Foghat of the 70's. Their music took a different direction starting with "Tight Shoes" in 1979. "Boogie Motel" was the last album that lead guitarist Rod Price played on until 1994's "Return of the Boogie Men".
When I originally bought this album when it first came out, I was horrified - this wasn't the Foghat I knew and loved. It didn't sound anything like that Foghat of yore. It is not a rock album; it is not like any blues albums I have ever heard. The best way that I can think to describe this album is "rockabilly light". I have heard rockabilly that I liked, years ago, by the Stray Cats. Their albums had the "rock" part of rockabilly. This album does not have that. It is so light and fluffy, it could be a nice, sweet little pet rabbit, and about as much fun as watching the grass grow.
Still, after all these years, I revile this album and think it is their WORST album ever! It disgusts and horrifies me to even see the album cover again! (shudder!). I gave away all my vinyl years ago, replacing it all with CD but I will never buy this CD! Horrible, horrible, horrible!
What a sad ending for such a good band! This was their last album until 1994's "Return of the Boogie Men", where they return to their blues-rock roots and guitarist Rod Price rejoins the band. I highly recommend "Return of the Boogie Men" over this album."

"It's really not fair to give this 5 stars but 1 star? I took this album on its own and there are some really good tracks here. I am a fan of the 70's Foghat. They rocked. While this album is COMPLETELY different than anything I've heard them do, it doesn't mean that it's bad. Give it a good listen for some decent rockabillyish music. The tunes are catchy and it's very well played and produced. Not 5 stars but definitely not a 1 star either. Probably 3 1/2 would be more fair."
Foghat's (well, Dave at least) retraces their roots

"By the time Zig Zag Walk was released Foghat was well past its commercial prime and many of the original members gone their seperate ways...except for Lonesome Dave at the core. Dave always loved old rock, blues and retro boogie and Zig Zag just that...full of light, catchy enormously fun (downright hilarious when you listen closely!) toe-tapping tunes w/some rockabilly thrown in to boot. Zig Zag is NOTHING like its predacessors but I sense some ghosts of Boogie Motel in the mix. This final chapter delivers Dave and Company doing whatever the heck they wanted damn it with hootin-and hollerin, harmonica, banging piano, Chuck Berry-ish solos, upright bass a la Stray Cats and sharp dancing beats to go out in style and having a blast doing it as evidenced when I saw the band on the Zig Zag Tour at The Bayou in Georgetown, Washington DC....undoubtedly a standout show and one of the most fun in my long 30+ concert-going years as they played a huge chunk of Zig Zag to the delight of the packed dancing and jumping club. Longtime fans and the press panned the recording and it ranks at the bottom of many lists but taken for face value by this long-time original fan Zig Zag ranks as one of my favorites and a cherry-on-the-cake of a closing chapter in rock music. I rank Zig Zag 5 stars because to this day I still get jumpy and my legs moving whenever I play this cd...its great stuff, loads of fun and a fantastic party pack of tunes. Thanks Foghat and thanks Dave (RIP), you're sorely missed...no one does music like this anymore and thats a darn shame."
Rockabilly Foghat

"Zig-Zag Walk is one of Foghat's best recordings. No, it is not like the Foghat of the 70's. Get over it! They grew and changed musically over the years, which is what a good band ought to do. You don't want to listen to a band that just reproduces the same sound over and over again, year after year. Granted, this album is a far cry from anything they ever did, but standing on it's own merits, it ranks with the best music they ever made. Definitely recommend this product. And this album did not reach #40 on the Billboard charts. It never made the Billboard charts, so Amazon, that piece of information is wrong."
