Great Mix

""Footlifters" is a great mix of marches, some very well known and some not so well known. However, it's the "not so well known" marches that make this CD a real winner. I never knew that Charles Ives and Scott Joplin wrote marches, and very good ones at that. I especially like Ives' "March Intercollegiate", with those special elements of surprise that are his specialty. His "Omega Lambda Chi" is very good as well. Other marches included are: "The Footlifter" (Fillmore); "Second Connecticut Regiment March" (Reeves); "Them Basses" (Huffine), as well as marches by Sousa, Alford, Joplin, Evans, Herbert, Gilmore, Gung'L, and Hewitt's "The Battle of Trenton". 19 tracks in all; 14 are played by The Incredible Columbia All Star Band, and 5 are played by The Goldman Band. Both ensembles are superb, playing with precision and spirit. This CD has great sound too. Another bonus: and I quote conductor Gunther Schuller, "Performances that are historically authentic, unadulterated in instrumentation, and respectful of the American march tradition". A valuable addition to your Band Library.

"Great and authentic millitary band sounds of patriotic music. Purchased for "Them Basses". Great job!"
