"During the mid- to late '80s, Foster & Lloyd were a popular songwriting and singing duo. As singers, they were known for their close harmonies and lively country-rock sound that is reminiscent of Poco or the Eagles. Radney Foster hails from Del Rio, Texas. A lawyer's son, he attended the University of Sewanee, Tennessee and during college, performed in a local nightclub. Based on the encouragement he got at the club, Foster took a year off of college to try his luck in Nashville. He was successful and never returned to college. Instead, he signed with MTM Music Group as a songwriter. Bill Lloyd is the son of a military man and was born in Bowling Green Kentucky. As a military "brat" Lloyd saw much of the world during childhood. He began writing songs as a teenager. He went on to study communications at Western Kentucky University, but like Foster, he eventually dropped out to enter the country music business. He came to Nashville in 1982 to pursue a solo career, but it was a long time before he got any real breaks. Around 1986, he was eventually teamed up with Foster and the two began writing such successful songs as "Since I Found You," which became a hit for the Sweethearts of the Rodeo. The two turned to singing the following year and signed with RCA. Foster and Lloyd were given free-rein with their eponymous first album; their debut single "Crazy Over You," made it to the Top 5 where it stayed for over four months. That fall, the duo debuted on the Grand Ole Opry, and later they performed on the annual CMA awards show. In 1988, their second single "Sure Thing" made it to the Top 10 and its follow up made it to the Top 20. Their third single, "What Do You Want from Me This Time," was a Top 10 hit for several months. They released their second album Faster and Llouder (a take-off on their names) in 1989. The album produced a Top 5 and a Top 50 hit. Foster and Lloyd released Version of the Truth their final album in 1990. They amicably split to pursue solo careers after that. In 1992, Foster released his solo debut Del Rio, TX - 1959 for Arista. It was more acoustic and country oriented than his earlier works and Foster wrote or co-wrote all ten tracks. Several of these songs including "Just Call Me Lonesome," have become hits. Lloyd went on to record several solo albums and work as a session guitarist. -- Sandra Brennan, All Music Guide"
