What Everyone Is Missing
Lawrence W. Bromley | Coral Springs, FL | 02/01/2006
(5 out of 5 stars)

"Nowadays, if a station plays Four Preps music, it might be "26 Miles (Santa Catalina)", "Big Man", or even "Down By the Station." The two oldies stations in my area, in fact, DO play them. One, now off the air, even used to play "More Money For You And Me". Despite a boast of "The largest record collection in Florida", a request for "More Money" is met by, "We don't have it." That is why anyone who loves The Four Preps and 4-part harmony MUST get this CD.

"More Money" is joined by two more medleys, "The Big Draft" and "great Songs". All three feature nearly dead-on impressions of top vocal groups of the 50s and 60s, with spoof versions of those groups' hits. The Preps first hit, "Dreamy Eyes", is also included. Two more songs pay a kind of tribute to the Beatles and The Four Seasons. "A Letter To The Beatles" tweaks the Liverpool lads (who were supposedly upset over it) and the sometimes insane Beatlemania of the 60s. And "Let's Call It A Day, Girl" is a tribute to Frankie Valli's group in a way that anyone who has heard Billy Joel's "Uptown Girl" would recognize.

Overall, three of the songs on the CD have goten decent airplay in recent years, but all fourteen deserve much better treatment. Until some radio station gets wise, all I can say is definitely get this CD, because "Absolutely the Best" is not just a title, it is "Absolutely" the truth. Buying the CD will be the only way to enjoy these Four Preps gems."
