CD Reviews

"Every Fraggle has a song; all the songs sung together make

"
The Fraggle Rockin' Collection is a wonderful re-issuing of the three classic albums "Fraggle Rock" (1983), "Perfect Harmony" (1986) and "Music and Magic" (1993). Fans have been clamoring for years to have Fraggle music released on CD and thanks to the huge success of the Fraggles on DVD, this dream has become a reality.

While some serious fans are a bit disgruntled in the fact that these albums are re-issues (and exact ones at that - meaning some songs repeat) you really cannot beat the fact that now all three memorable recordings have received the digital treatment. Each song has been restored to excellent clarity.

The album also includes a nice interview with executive producer Lawrence Mirkin and songwriter Philip Balsam. Both have featured prominently in the bonus features on the DVDs, and it's nice to have them provide even more insight into the creation of the magnificent music for this legendary children's series. Also included are rare, behind-the-scenes photos and lyrics for each song. Everything is housed in a nice, digipack box set that folds out (similar to many DVD box sets).

It is truly sensational to have these songs on CD after all these years. "Fraggle Rock" and "Perfect Harmony" have never been on CD before, and "Music and Magic" has been commercially unavailable for nearly fifteen years. If you are a fan of Fraggle Rock, just a fan of the music, or even just a fan of charming, sincere and heartfelt songs that get your toes tapping, this album is for you.

With the twenty-fifth anniversary of Fraggle Rock upon us next year, hopefully HIT Entertainment and Koch Records will see it fit to release a follow-up album with even more music from the show never before released."
Great Music for Muppet Fans

"This 3-disc collection includes some of Fraggle Rock's most memorable songs. Like Sesame Street and The Muppet Show, Fraggle Rock incorporated many different musical styles into the show, from rhythm & blues to country to pop. The Fraggle Rockin' Collection will be appreciated by anyone who enjoys the show - children and adults alike. However, I was disappointed to discover that some songs are repeated on different discs - "Convincing John" and "Follow Me" both make repeat appearances, while some of my favorites, such as "The Bells of Fraggle Rock" are missing entirely."
What can I say?

"If you're a huge fan of Fraggle Rock, then you definitely need this collection for your music library. Some songs are repeated, but that is because this collection is a reissue on CD of three previous Fraggle Rock albums which were released years apart with no intention of forming a "complete" collection of Fraggle Rock music. Even so, this collection is useful for its ability to complete any Fraggle Rock collection.

It's true that this collection lacks some of my personal favorites, but it more than makes up for it with the inclusion of some of the best music ever to hit television, and that is no exaggeration. I admit it would have been nice for this to be a 4-CD collection and to have a disc of "extras" and for this not to be just a repackaging of three previous albums... but I understand that that would have involved a lot more wrangling with the owners of copyrights and the hiring of people to make the collection, along with the actual process of recording and editing any "new" releases, etc. This would probably have more than doubled the price of the collection, so I'm willing to live with what I've got.

This might not be a must-have for every single person who liked the show or even everyone who has bought the first three seasons on DVD, but it is a must-have for any of the die hard Fraggle Rock fanatics out there like myself who bought the DVDs, posters, and a t-shirt."
