CD ReviewsBrilliant! 09/10/1999 (4 out of 5 stars) "Ian Levine has split soul fans in two camps, those who despise his recordings with more than 100 former Motown artists, and those who thank him for getting such talented artists to work again. Frances Nero had only a few singles released on Motown before retiring completely from the music business. 24 years later, it was Ian Levine who persuaded her to record again, and he did for her what Berry Gordy never did: he gave her a hit record. The brilliant "Footsteps Following Me" reached the UK Top 20 in 1991, displaying Frances' sunny, bright voice on a catchy, flowing tune. There are plenty of other good tracks on this CD, I recommand "Making My Daydream Real", "Mister Right" (co-written by Edwin Starr), "Right Up To The Limit" and the very 90s "Come Back And Start Again". Ashford/Simpson's "Some Things You Never Get Used To" is a very good remake, but there are, however, songs that don't work quite as well, the covers of "Attack", "Why Don't I Run Away From You", and the surprisingly lackluster re-dos of 70s disco anthems "Shame" and "Young Hearts Run Free", but apart from these, the majority of tunes are a good and competent showcase for such a beautiful voice as Frances Nero's."
