"This is the second Francis Cabrel CD I bought. It's a great introduction to his music even though it only covers some of his hits between 1977 and 1987. I truly believe he should have included the song _Le Temps S'en Allait_ from his _Quelqu'un de L'Interieur_ album, among others, but I realize you can only put so much on one CD. He also came out with some great songs in his albums after 1987 (Sarcabane, Samedi Soir Sur La Terre, and Hors-Saison).I loved _Petite Marie_ when I heard it. This is the song that made him famous. I later took the time to translate the lyrics, and now realizing the beauty of this song I find it very moving. His music is very good, but you are really missing much if you don't understand his lyrics which are very meaningful and true to life. Fortunately he almost always includes lyrics with his CDs; the only two I can think of which doesn't include lyrics are _Cabrel Public_ (one of his live albums) and _Les Murs de Poussiere_ (his first album). My favorite song on this CD is _Encore et Encore_. It's unfortunate that a sample is not available here. There are two different live versions of this song on his 3-CD live recording _D'une ombre a l'autre_ (this set is a challenge to find) which are both more interesting than (but not a replacement for) the studio version. I like most of the songs on this CD, but if I had to pick out another favorite it would have to be _Les Murs de Poussiere_ which you can hear a sample of."

"Cabrel has a "je ne sais quoi." His songs are filled with such emotion. As a teacher, I have found that even my High School students (who are too cool for most 70's & 80's music), loved this album as well! Je l'aime a mourir and C'etait l'hiver were their favorites."

"My experience with Francis Cabrel is somewhat limited, and I used this CD as a fitting introduction into his music, given that it compiles the best hits of his first 10 years.
I can say without a doubt that the album is amazing, the quality of the songs impeccable. I'm fluent in French, so I'm able to understand the lyrics (a very integral part of such an intense artist). My favorite song on the album is the melancholic "C'etait L'hiver". Songs like "Repondez-Moi", "Je L'aime a Mourir", "Je Te Suivrai", and "Je Pense Encore A Toi" clearly demonstrate the personal, intimately romantic side of Cabrel, while others like "Les Murs de Poussiere", "Encore et Encore", and "Il Faudra Leur Dire" explore his more rebellious side.
The songs range from happy to hopeful to depressing, so a listener should find something to suit his mood. I would definitely recommend this album to anyone interested in exploring the French music era of the 70-80s.
