CD ReviewsClarification Michael Thomas Roe | Atlanta | 08/04/1999 (4 out of 5 stars) "Having read the two reviews below ("Masterpieces Turned Elevator Music" and "Review Got it Right") I felt compelled to clarify a few things for the sake of the potential buyer, as the comments taken as a whole can be misleading. Yes, there are reworkings of several songs, but the entire CD is not made up of them. The songs that are reworked are: "Love Story", A Man and a Woman" and "Live For Life". Three songs out of the eighteen tracks total hardly constitute an entire CD's worth. Also, it should be noted that these songs were reworked by Francis Lai and his then-arranger/synthesizer player, Jean Musy. Long time listeners of Francis Lai will make the immediate stylistic connection between these newer (mid-70's) versions and Lai's output of the period. So, in short, the compilation was not intended as a quick, non-sanctioned, Swedish "cash-in", but as a compilation with three of Lai's more memorable songs updated by the composer himself. The remaining 15 songs on the CD are versions original. And while we are on the subject of reviewing, I should add that the music is splendid and the production is crisp and clear. Standouts include "Intimate Moments", "The Blue Rose" and "Sur Notre Etoile", Francis Lai providing vocals on the last two. A perfect introduction to the world of Francis Lai." The original review is correct - go for the soundtrack CD A music fan | Minnesota | 01/14/2000 (1 out of 5 stars) "I own original LP's of A Man and a Woman, and Live for Life. The reworked recordings on this do not have the feel or power of the originals. Disappointing..." Oct. 27, 1998 Review Got It Right! A music fan | 01/17/1999 (1 out of 5 stars) "The ability to get music CDs on the web has rekindled my love for music and prompted me to go after some of my old favorites. The music from "A Man and A Woman" was wonderful in the original but horrific in this album. This was definitely not music from the original soundtrack. The first reviewer was right on target, this is a collection of "masterpieces turned elevator music.""
