A beautiful program and a big accident

"First, we must celebrate the recording of this Franck's Quartet, which is an extremely beautiful work that should be played and recorded more often. The Vilnius Quartet does a fine job and is recorded with admirable clarity and warmth.



Unfortunately, the Quintet is disappointing. The strings sound perfect again, but the piano seems to be very far, in a different space and acustics. Why??? This is unexplainable to me.



The impression of being listening to a disc made with insufficient care is confirmed by two weird noises at the beginning of the Quartet's Finale (at 3:10 aprox.). I extracted the track and took a close look on Soundforge. They seem to be rough cuts of edition, as made by an amateur. I have 2.000 CDs and I never had found something like this before. It would be interesting to know if others bought the CD and found the same problem.



For those interested on duration/price rate, you must be aware that the 2-CD price is not justified at all. Duration is slightly longer than one CD: 86 minutes.

En primer lugar, debemos celebrar la grabación de este Cuarteto de Franck, que es una obra extremadamente bella y que debería interpretarse y grabarse más a menudo. El Cuarteto Vilnius hace un buen trabajo, el cual está registrado en una grabación de admirable claridad y calidez.



Desgraciadamente, el Quinteto decepciona. Otra vez, las cuerdas suenan perfectamente, pero el piano parece estar demasiado lejos, en un espacio y acústica diferentes. ¿¿¿Por qué??? Esto me parece inexplicable.



La impresión de estar escuchando un disco hecho sin el suficiente cuidado la confirman dos extraños ruidos al comienzo del Finale del Cuarteto (en 3:10 aprox.). Extraje la pista y le eché una mirada en Soundforge. Parecen ser unos toscos cortes de edición, como hechos por un aficionado. Tengo 2.000 CDs y nunca antes me había encontrado con algo así. Sería interesante saber si alguien más compró el CD y encontró el mismo problema.



Para aquellos interesados en la relación entre duración y precio, han de saber que el precio de 2 CDs no se justifica en modo alguno. La duración es levemente mayor que la de un CD: 86 minutos.
