Five stars for the music, but the concept is something else

"Franco De Vita is brilliant: Perhaps the most talented and versatile singer/songwriter the Latin-music scene has produced. In many ways, he's the closest thing we've got to an Elton John or a Billy Joel. But "20th Anniversary" is a hodge-podge disc put out by Sony to celebrate the 20th year of its Latin division. And so this disc mixes some of Franco's hits with album cuts and other tracks pulled from the concert album "En Vivo Marzo 16." There doesn't appear to be much thought as to why the songs were chosen. In fact, it's kind of silly. For instance, there is the live version of "Latino," but then we get "Americano," the Italian-language version of the same song. What's the logic behind that? And there are no liner notes to explain why certain songs are here and others are not. Franco himself appears to have no hand in compiling this album. Musically, it's hard to fault this disc, because it does contain some of the most moving, inventive Latin pop from the past decade. Nevertheless, it still seems like something Sony put out simply to make money, not for any creative reasons."

"Please list the tracks on this CD! I love Franco De Vita, but don't need to buy this if I have all the songs on other CDs. Thank you!"
