CD Reviews

Lovely urban folk that's touching, not sappy

(5 out of 5 stars)

"Frank Christian walks a fine line beautifully. He writes, sings, and plays guitar with tremendous sensitivity and never veers into sentimentality. You never feel manipulated by his gorgeous urban folk songs, you just get swept along like he's an old friend of yours playing guitar for you while you have a few beers. And "Song for Autumn" is one of my favorite songs by anyone."
Heart-breakingly lovely music

"Most lovely music, and lovingly written songs. Frank's guitar playing, by turns, touches the soul, dazzles, slinks through righteously-executed blues, makes you laugh, and makes you cry. As a song-writer, he writes witty and moving tunes, occasionally slightly self-conscious, but it's all worth it for the first two tracks. OK, make that all of the tracks. A sweet vocalist too, in a nasal, Dylanesque way, but much stronger and more tasteful technically (apologies to those who find that statement heracy, but you have to admit, dear old Bob is no technocrat).

In any case, remember too that this is a collection of REAL music -- recorded in one night, to tape, simple miking, superb musicianship. No pro-tools, fancy compressors, auto tune and all of the other modern intrusions. It's increasingly rare to have a chance to listen to a CD that gives a real encounter with a real musician/craftsman/song-writer -- and, unless your senses have been completely subsumed by modern ear-candy production, you will appreciate this very moving disc right away.

ok, now that' I've set totally outrageous expectations, try to enjoy it anyway..."

"With only one listen, this became my most played disc. It grabs your attention right off and never lets go. His intelligent yet sweet lyrics coupled with his admirable guitar playing capture your imagination much like a beloved novel. As a fan who simply likes what she hears, I highly recommend this CD grace your collection."
