"another reviewer hit it perfectly, the sound quality is an improvement on the original lp's, better bass and the highs are tamed, a pleasant surprise for a BGO product,
the remastering is usually on the polite side, but these three recordings benefit from the more aggressive bass! I've been tolerating a copy of What's Next which had been transferred from lp, essential music but just bearable because of the ticks, pops, groove noise, and lid slamming, etc. This recording alone would be a prize, but in this set, you get three lp's on two discs, and Live and Tales of the Unexpected are better than I remembered! Don't deliberate on this one, it's a no-brainer
purchase!"

"Frank is truly an understated blues rock player, very smooth and timely in his playing.A must for anybody who likes Leslie West or Travers or Trower."

"Soon after it's original release I bought the LP of What's Next back when I was in high school. Later I picked up Live and a few others. I have been waiting years to find them on CD. When I found this set that offered no less than 3 albums for the price of one I couldn't place the order fast enough. Overall the remastering and transfer to CD is excellent. There's only so much you can do with live material but even that isn't bad. The original LP of What's Next had a unique production sound to it and I was wondering how that would translate to CD. On all the tracks the bass was punched up and the highs tamed to give a nicely balanced sound from what I was used to on the original album. The CD is an actual improvement in sound quality.
Frank Marino is a guitar hero who in my opinion never got his just recognition. To back that type of talent Mahogany Rush are incredible as well. Any one who has ever heard Something's Coming Our Way knows what I'm talking about. Just one of the most blistering Rock-n-Roll tracks ever cut. Marino's playing brings to mind traces of Jimi Hendricks, Robin Trower and the intensity of Ted Nugent. Yeah... it's a monster. Any R&R fan into guitar needs this set. What's Next is a blazing album from beginning to end with my personal favs being Somethings Coming Our Way and Loved By You. Live features one of the greatest covers of Johnny B Good since Chuck laid it down. Johnny Winter covers it good too but Mahogany Rush edges top place in my book. Also, in the set is a cover of Purple Haze that isn't bad. The title track of Tales Of The Unexpected, an instrumental, shows Marino's talent and that he can be versatile with his playing. The band's interesting cover of the Beatles, Norwegian Wood, along with their own track Sister Change shows that as well. It seems in today's modern Rock that the lead guitar solo for the most part has given way to power chords so even the younger generation may find this set an ear opening and inspiring experience. We don't have the double kick drum, thrashing or crunching guitar, no whining vocals, or growling as far as that goes, here, but what you do get is straight up, Rock hard, good time, full frontal assault that is as good as it gets.
To sum up; you have excellent musical content, an excellent value, so get yours today and have a most excellent time."

"Finally these 3 albums get remastered together, WOW! Not sure if the original masters were used?...do they still exist? Anyway, it sounds pretty good, and the music is top notch! This is Frank and the band at their best!"
Frank Marino "Enough Said"

"Look, when it comes to some of the greatest musicians to grace the Music World,Frank Marino should always be part of the discussion.Frank brings many styles of music into the fold, and through out his career Frank Marino has recorded some of the most musically mixed albums.
Frank does do covers of others, but the thing is Frank always brings something to the cover songs and makes them fresh and if you had no ides it was somebody else's song, you would think it was his own song.Even if you already know it's a cover,Frank still makes the song shine like a new morning sun.
With this release of 3 albums in 2 Cds, you get the Live album, which may not be a whole Frank Marino & Mahoganny Rush show it still will make you say, this guy can play the guitar and he is not your average joe.The Live album was the first time I had heard Frank back in the late 70's when my brother use to play the 8-track in his car.Simply one amazing album from start to end.
The 2nd album in this release is the album that followed the Live album titled "Tales of the Unexpected" and the tunes are just that,Frank telling Tales with his Guitar and his lyrics. This was the first tour I seen Frank play Live and the other 8-Track my brother use to play and I was hooked on Frank's Music from that point on to this day.One side is studio material which ends the 1st CD in this collection. The 2nd side of Tales is all live(which starts on the 2nd CD in this collection)is some of the most excellent tunes that have never been released as a studio track by Frank. The Instrumental "Tales of The Unexpected" along with some of the other tunes on Tales,is one of many songs that shows Frank's diversity and the different styles of music he can play,be that jazz, blues or rock.
The last album in this collection is "What's Next" which followed the Tales release and this album is Frank just continueing playing tunes like the champion guitar player he is.While he got away from the more so called Epic tunes he released on his early release's when he first came out(excluding Maxoom-his first release, which is more bluezy),from Strange Universe up to Mahaogany Rush IV,Frank as I said can play any style and any structure of music and it all works and his playing skills allow him to do pretty much anything when writing songs.
If you want to hear another one of the Greatest Musicians out there who gets a really bad rap by the critics(come on Most so called music critics have no clue anyway)as being a Hendrix Clone,Don't believe that Hendrix Clone mis information. While Frank has done some covers of Hendrix, and he can play the Hendrix tunes just as good as anybody no doubt,Frank has his own kind of style and his playing is far from a Clone of anybody.Frank is his own man and he owns his guitar and his playing is far superior than most guitar players out there.
Get Franks Music, and get all you can, listen and learn and Enjoy.
