"I've been a fan of Frank's since my initial discovery in 1970. This has quickly become one of my favorite FZ discs. Here's the deal: These are three songs Frank considered his "signature pieces" - ones he felt especially proud of. {Black Napkins/Zoot Allures/Watermelon in Easter Hay] Dweezil and Vaultmeister Joe have searched the vault looking for early versions of each, and then backed them with "mature "versions, so the avid listener can compare the growth and progress. A seventh tune, "Merely A Blues In A" rounds out the package. Eat your hearts out, Blues Boys. Frank is tearing it up!
I'm reminded of the excellent work featured on "Guitar", as these are all guitar pieces - no vocals to speak of. These are some of the most outstanding representations of Frank's guitar work in existence. If you are a fan (especially of his guitar playing), you really should get this disc. If you are not a fan, and you are wondering what the fuss is about when it comes to Frank's incredibly inventive guitar work, you ought to listen to this. It will clear things up in a flash. The man was nothing short of brilliant in his creative playing. I'm so glad I bought this disc! It hasn't been out of my player in a week!
