"Okay, Okay, this is not my favorite Zappa album. No album can be as good as "Apostrophe" but this one comes close - so very close. If you like Zappa then this is probably one of your favorites. If you are trying to expose someone to Zappa this may be the album with which to do it. If you have never heard any Zappa then snatch this one up and listen to it quickly. You will probably wear it out.
Musically, this is a great example of Zappa'a genius. I feel that Zappa's intelligence put him on a much higher plane than the rest of us. This album proves it.
Comically, this album will make you laugh till you hurt. Yes, humor does belong in music. This album is high-lair-e-us!
I can't praise it enough! This album is great! Buy it!"

"Most people I know who are familiar with Frank Zappa either see him as an iconoclastic hero or view him as someone who epitomized everything wrong with modern music. Those who like him generally fit into one of three categories: Those who like him for his brilliant but quirky and often dissonant compositions; those who like him for his utterly un-PC and often outrageous lyrics, and those who enjoy both sides of his genius. I count myself in the third group though I lean toward the second. Many others have aspired to be as blatantly and humorously lewd, crude, and rude as Zappa was, but no one on the scene matches his intelligence and panache.
Frank Zappa had a long and successful career before being cut down by prostate cancer at a relatively young age, so there are many albums of vastly different material to choose from. I own a number of Zappa albums and CDs, but when I need a quick Zappa fix that is fairly accessible to the masses and hilarious at the same time, I choose Sheik Yerbouti. This CD contains a judicious mix of Zappa's avant-garde compositions and songs that will leave you roaring with laughter so long as you are not one of those who is easily offended. My favorites are: I Have Been In You; Broken Hearts Are For ***holes; Bobby Brown Goes Down; Dancin' Fool, Jewish Princess; and Yo' Mama.
This remastered edition of Sheik Yerbouti is housed in a standard jewel box and comes with a useful booklet containing album info, a few pictures, and the all-important lyrics. If you are looking for a CD that illustrates the many talents of Frank Zappa, I can think of no better starter album than this one. Get it while it's cheap!
