Amazon.comPeter Pertis is a Hungarian emigré pianist who now lives and teaches in the United States. This was his second recording; the first was a Hungarian LP suppressed when Pertis emigrated. He plays four relatively lengthy and demanding works by Liszt, and joins the select company of pianists who can play this music with the color and flair it needs. Frankly, I hope I never hear the Dante Sonata, again, since it sounds to me like Liszt at his bombastic worst. But while it's playing, Pertis almost convinces listeners that it is music. And he does wonderfully with the other music, which is all top-drawer Liszt. -- Leslie Gerber
