Excellent songs, well performed

"This is a very recommendable disc. The songs mostly stem from Schreker's early years (though there are a few later ones) and draw on a wide variety of influences (Wolf and Brahms seem very much present), and if they fail to display a truly individual voice - something Schreker would definitely develop later - that doesn't detract from the overall pleasure of this recital of passionate, lyrical and sometimes dramatic late-romantic lieder. Andreas Schmidt is a very fine singer as well and presents a well-considered and idiomatic singing. Nadelmann's contributions aren't, perhaps, quite on the same level, but she still gives us some fine singing. Sound quality is good but not outstanding. At the price I hope a lot of people will pick up this one."
