Album DescriptionIn the vast recorded canon of Schubert's immortal Winterreise we have multiple Fischer-Dieskau's, Hotter, multiple Prey's, Hynninen and dozens of other worthy versions of this masterpiece! Why then another version by an American baritone named Patrick Mason? Mason's lovely baritone is certainly a most flexibly beautiful instrument for this Winterreise. However it is Patrick Mason the interpreter of intensely poetic depth that guides us so meaningfully through the harrowing journey of Schubert's Müller cycle. The overwhelmingly poignant trajectory of this performance distinguishes Mason as a lieder singer of the highest order.
