Synopsis

Album Description
The Freak Mountain Ramblers keep alive the kind of music that the Holy Modal Rounders, Michael Hurley, Jeffrey Frederick, and The Clamtones have brought to the non-mainstream folk/country/rock listeners around the world. In fact, there are three former Rounders on the CD (bassist David Reisch, drummer Roger North, and guest saxer Teddy Deane), along with two of Portland's best singer/songwriters, Jimmy Boyer and Kevin (Bingo) Richey. The CD carries a soulful live feel too rarely caught in the studio, and while the subject matter and mood of the individual songs ranges from humorous to macabre to pensive, the collection as a whole has a rich dark texture to it that lingers long after the last song has ended. Band members: Jimmy Boyer - guitar, lead and harmony vocals
Kevin (Bingo)Richey - guitar, lead and harmony vocals
David Reisch - bass, lead and harmony vocals
Roger North - drums, congas
Forest Bloodgood - fiddle
Paul Bassett - washboard

CD Reviews

Portland, Oregon in the 21st Century
Jason Schwartz | Eugene, OR | 11/26/2000
(4 out of 5 stars)

"These guys are one of the best examples of the new-age hillbilly scene in Portland, Oregon. Their shows are full of terrific musicianship mixed with humor and great vocals. The album is a great way to get familiar with these guys as you wait for the next show.Featuring members of "Golden Delicious" and "Holy Modal Rounders""
