Passion, desire and heartbreak as only Freddy could sing it

"Freddy Fender deserves to be remembered as a great singer who could sing the contents of a phone book and still make your heart melt. His voice was rich, vibrant and full of energy; and his songs boasted lush musical arrangements. The CD proves it.
The CD starts off with two of Freddy's biggest hits on both the pop and country charts: "Before The Next Teardrop Falls" and "Wasted Days And Wasted Nights" from 1975. These songs are still wonderful today. Yes, some of the lyrics all throughout this CD are sung in Spanish, but it is no matter: Freddy's art moves you in a certain way that few artists can accomplish.
The album continues with Freddy performing a cover of Doris Day's hit entitled "Secret Love." This is very well done. Other great songs on this CD include "You'll Lose A Good Thing;" "Vaya Con Dios (Go With God);" "Livin' It Down" and "Since I Met You Baby." There are background vocals on several of the songs on this CD and they work very well into the overall arrangement. It's too bad the background vocalists are uncredited!
Despite the fact that Freddy was born in Texas there is an unmistakable Hispanic flavor to his country/pop music. This is evident when he sings some of the lyrics in Spanish. Moreover, the final song on this CD, "I Love My Rancho Grande," is distinctly Spanish in its style. The background vocals on this song are also very nicely done.
My only disappointment, albeit a minor one, is that the twelve songs on the CD only fill up 33 minutes of running time. I only wish the manufacturer gave us more of Freddy's work on this CD--there was plenty of room for it!
The quality of the sound is excellent and the liner notes offer three great color photos of Freddy. There is an essay by Sal Nunziato that discusses Freddy's professional life as well as some of his personal struggles along the way. You get the songs credits, too--a nice plus!
Overall, I highly recommend this CD for Freddy's fans, fans of country music with a pop flavor added to it and people who want to experience Freddy's artistry for the very first time. This CD is budget priced, too, so it's a great starter CD if you want just one CD to see if you will like Freddy's music. Freddy may have departed from this world; but he lives on through his phenomenal ballads. Thank you, Freddy!

"I love listening to Freddy Fender sing. I have his CD in the car and everytime I'm out it's on. Love When the Next Teardrop Fall; Wasted Days, Wasted Nights; Once I Had a Secret Love. These three songs I could listen to all day. My husband and I have been fans of his since the first time we heard him sing back in the 70's."

"This is Freddie Fender at his best. Great songs and the quality of this CD is excellent. I was worried about this being another cheap remastered CD with poor quality. This is as close as you can get to the first recording of these songs. I have it it my car where whenever I need a Freddie Fender fix, it is disk #1 on my CD player."
