Synopsis
Album Description The surviving members of Motown's legendary house band, guitarist Eddie Willis, bassist Bob Babbitt and drummer Uriel Jones perform a set of the greatest classic Motown songs, on which they provided instrumentation. In front of a wildly enthusiastic New Year's Eve crowd in Orlando, songs made famous by the likes of Marvin Gaye, Stevie Wonder and The Supremes are performed with the same zeal as they were when they were first recorded 40 years ago. CD ReviewsTASTE OF THE FUNK BROTHERS LIVE IN YOUR LIVING ROOM Mo-Fu | 05/20/2008 (5 out of 5 stars) "I HAVE BEEN TO SEVERAL FUNK BROTHERS SHOWS...THESE GUYS ARE GREAT!!! .....NOTHING LIKE HAVING THEM IN YOUR LIVING ROOM ROCKIN' OUT THE GREAT MOTOWN TUNES.......A MUST BUY!!!.......GOOD TO SEE YOU GUYS FINALLY GOT THIS OUT TO THE PUBLIC....LOVE, MO-FU LORI (#1 MOTOWN-FUNK BROTHER FAN)" Three of the original Funk Brothers in action Henrique Peirano | Brasilia, Brazil | 03/02/2009 (4 out of 5 stars) "This is a live DVD recorded with only 3 of the original Funk Brothers: Bob Babbitt, Uriel Jones, and Eddie Willis. I thought there would be more original musicians of Motown's "Snake Pit". It seems that Jack Ashford has his own "Funk Brothers" band, and some of the other musicians aren't alive anymore or just not interested in hitting the road again. With the exception of the great vocals of Marcia Ware, the other singers are ok. I'd say that the other band members are just as skilled as the FB trio. So it's a great show to watch, although I wish there had been one produced just as well as "Soul Comes Home" (celebrative show of Stax Records' singers/groups), for the Funk Brothers. If you want to see most of the original FB in action, try "Standing In The Shadows of Motown". This is a fantastic documentary released in 2003. Some of the members that gave in interviews for this film are already deceased, so it's an important piece of Motown history." Live Inn Orlando E.D. Arrington | WILSON, NORTH CAROLINA, US | 05/09/2010 (3 out of 5 stars) "This is a piece of American History that should not only be cherished but taught to our youth. What an amazing story of talent, triumph over adversity, and loyalty to friendship. I cannot thank "Dr. Licks" enough for his ten years of love and commitment that causesd this buried history to be brought to light for the world to the see."
