"Poliuto with Giorgio Lamberti Adriana Maliponte and Renato Bruson provide a winning combianation in Donizetti's lateish opera presented by the San Carlo theatre. given that this opera had once been banned in that very theatre it is a strange irony to see it mounted there. Adriana Maliponte is nearly as dramatic as Callas and manages to sound sweeter than her. Bruson is his usual wonderful self in Donizetti and Lombardi is nearly as good as Corelli in the title part. It is good to hear the opera presented with modern sound This a version to be preferred to 'the cure for insomnia' with Carreras Riciarelli and Juan Pons presented at the Wiener Staatsoper in the mid 1980s"
