"Gale Storm tackled rock with an essentially classical soprano and absolutely no feeling for a rock beat, meter or irony. Which makes these records all the more miraculous. Everything she did was absolutely outstanding, maybe because she took every song, no matter how silly, seriously and brought the music up to her level rather than her coming down to its level. Gale Storm's records for Dot are remarkable for the range of material, the simple but effective production values and her distinct talent for covering songs recorded by other artists so notably the public sometime forgot the originals. Gale's rendition of "Why Do Fools Fall in Love" is every bit as historic as Frankie Lymon's. Her "Dark Moon" ups the bar on Bonnie Guitar's haunting original. She takes Gloria Mann's "Teenage Prayer" and infuses it with such angst poor Gloria's original version disappeared from public view. She went toe-to-toe with Dean Martin on "Memories Are Made of This" (she recorded her version just after Martin's original was released) and nearly matched him in sales. She could take '30s classics such as "On Treasure Island" and make them rock opuses. To think she only recorded a year-and-a-half! She quit for family reasons but had she continued it's a sure bet she'd still be recording today. There's never been anyone like her and if you don't believe that just listen to her first record on Dot,"I Hear You Knockin'" backed with "Never Again." Prepared to be knocked out! (In other words, GET this C.D. when it comes back on the market as inevitably will.)"

"Gale Storm roared up the charts in the mid 50's with these tunes! "I Hear You Knocking" went to #2 on the charts and was awarded a gold record. Gale didn't just sing these songs...she breathed a life into these songs the writers could never have hoped for. Witness "Dark Moon"...Bonnie Guitar recorded this tune and did a successful version of it, but Gale's version reigned (and reigns) supreme. Chris Isaak's version doesn't even come close. Gale hit the charts 11 times and had 6 top ten hits...all this in the 18 months she recorded for Dot records. This CD is a must for all fans of Miss Storm and for fans of early 50's rock and roll. Sure, it probably is pop and roll, but Gale and Pat Boone gave most of us our first real dose of Rock and Roll. This cd also includes 3 excellent unreleased tracks from Gale...there are dozens more unreleased masters waiting for someone who cares to put into a boxed set. For an introduction to Gale's great recordings, you can't do better than this cd."
