Gamenight unabashedly operates on brash guitars. Most of the time, they're laying down the quirky, angular riffs for which they've become known, weaving a disjointed tapestry of melody that is odd enough to be memorable but controlled enough not to alienate listeners. The group also pulls a few tricks on this album by adding wrinkles to their mathematical sound with danceable beats, dabbling in jazzier chord structures, and in parts, a barrage of guitar pedals creating an atmospheric wall of sound. There will be no mistaking Gamenight for any other act, to be sure.
