Lucas' Electric Music for Mind and Body

"This CD offers Lucas in band settings, with guest vocalists. Some titles have their origins in T.S. Eliot and Shakespeare, and lyrics tackle subjects from the decadence of the too-rich to vampires of various stripes. Lucas is no light-weight, but there is light and air in his music: the female vocals on "Out from Under" and "Jericho," among others, are down-right beautiful; the big-lug sing-along sound of "Let's Go Swimming" is gleeful, and all the music is sewn tightly together with the quirky and brilliant guitar parts---one part electric blisters, one part musical irony---Lucas creates again and again. Lucas is of course a great guitarist, and an interesting song-writer, but as time passes he shows that his conceputal abilites, in composition, arrangements and the overall schemes of his albums, are becoming as impressive as his burn-down-the-night guitar-playing. This is the earliest of his CDs to show all these strengths working together. You can simply listen if you like---even dance now and then---but there's plenty more here if you're of a mind. . . ."
