Alternate Versions of Genesis Material 1971-1973
MinServ93@aol.com | KC, Mo | 01/07/1999
(5 out of 5 stars)

"If you love Genesis material, consider this Italian release a must-have. It features music from 1971-1973 : Harold The Barrel, Harlequin, and Fountain Of Salmacis from "Nursery Cryme," Watcher Of The Skies and Supper's Ready from "Foxtrot," and I Know What I Like from "Selling England By The Pound." They are studio tracks, but they are alternate versions. The introduction to "Watcher" was replaced by a new ending. "Supper's Ready" has been moved up-tempo in a few places. "Fountain" is a refershing change for those familiar with the released version. In short, get this release and you will find the music to be familiar and different, as well as very worthwhile!"
Nothing special here

(3 out of 5 stars)

"These are not alternate versions - these are the original versions with the single's version of WOTS thrown in. If you want to buy it for the cover photograph, fine. Otherwise, save your money and buy the remastered verions of Foxtrot, Nursery Cryme, and Selling England By the Pound. They're well worth buying for the improvement in sound quality alone."
A compilation of early Genesis material
Stuart McCulloch | Cincinnati, OH | 05/24/2000
(3 out of 5 stars)

"Maybe it's just me, but I didn't find anything particularly special about this compilation of early Genesis material. With exception of "Watcher" all of the songs seem to be identical to those found on their original albums (at least to my ear). This alternate version of "Watcher" can also be found on the Archive box set. If you want a nice sampling of early Genesis and don't want to invest in the three CDs they come from then this is very representative. If you're looking for some sort of collectible don't bother. Save your money and get the box set."
