"For me, the stand-out tracks are JULIA'S THEME and SEBASTIAN AGAINST THE WORLD. In BRIDESHEAD THEME, it's a borderline-thrill to hear that bassoon putt-putting all over the place in the background. The second part of GOING TO BRIDESHEAD has that brilliant suspended-string shtick. VENICE NOCTURNE has a slow hypnotic quality that reminded me of John Barry. The end of THE FIRST VISIT is also Barryesque. In JULIA, the harmonic tension between the woodwinds and the strings is admirably modernistic.
My favorite passage is near the end of SEBASTIAN'S SUMMER. An oboe passage, backed with a brilliant ascending violin figure, and with the violas doing a slow trill."
"When I saw Brideshead Revisited for the first time, I was immediately captivated by this music. These themes are rich of sentimental emotions, and absolutely suitable for this tv. series. I can not imagine B.R. without them. They were born for it."
Brideshead, bach, and vivaldi

"I believe that if, like myself, you like Bach and Vivaldi, you will love Geoffrey Burgon's music from the BBC production of Brideshead Revisited -- it is Real Nice Stuff -- unfortunately it never gets played on radio, and the production (which was Excellent too!) was about 12 episodes as I remember, and PBS doesn't re-broadcast it (I believe they are missing a bet), so simply; just no-one ever gets to hear it!
I think that unless you are old enough to have watched PBS in the late 70s you have probably never heard this music. If you've gotten This far and you haven't heard Burgon's Brideshead, do yourself a favor, LISTEN !!
Not all the tracks are 'Great!', but Something here will probably get onto your all time top ten list!"
Superb, Reminds Me of Many Scenes in TV Production

"I have to echo the earlier reviews. My LP version of this CD is also worn out. This CD is superb on at least two levels: 1 - As wonderful background music; 2 - As a reminder of each scene in the wonderful TV production. The audio is well done. Warning: After listening to this music for a while, you will want to buy the TV production video on DVD!
