As he says, "My job is essentially thinking up goofy sh_t."

"George Carlin's stand-up style has certainly evolved over the past 30 years. The 1970s albums have some long personal anecdotes (like "I used to be Irish Catholic"), and each of his 90s albums usually have a significantly long cynical social commentary. I admittedly like all of his work, but I know that some older fans are partial to his more straight-forward comedy style than his current bitter rants. "A Place For My Stuff" seems to epitomize this middle era, with lots of his very imaginative "D'yever notice...?" observations (a style which Seinfeld and Gallagher seemed to later popularize) and just plain whacky comedy. Though as always, Carlin's exaggerations and executions are perfect. This album has both studio and live material, which makes for a fun listen. Some great live stand-up routines are here ("A place for my stuff", "Ice box man / Fussy Eater", "Rice Krispies", "Have a nice day"...all of which appeared on the HBO special "Carlin At Carnegie"). But his news announcements, the Interview With Jesus, and game show satire are hilarious with the added music and guest speakers. That's probably why the album hasn't gotten stale on me, despite the fact that I now "know the jokes". And "The Book Club" still cracks me up. I would recommend this to those who especially liked the older HBO specials he did, just want to buy and hear something funny that isn't a simple recording of a stand-up routine, or George Carlin fans who may be partial to his 80's "pre-cynical" material (though as I said, I like that stuff too). Also, maybe those who like the Cheech & Chong albums would also like this particular Carlin album for its studio material."
One of George's best CDs!

"George made a masterpiece when he made this album. First off it's the only GC album made where it breaks away from the stand-up to do little non-live bits, but while I often am not too thrilled with albums that do that, this one is definately an exception.
George makes some of the greatest bits ever known to man on this album (Interview with Jesus, Book Club, the advertising, etc.), and if anything, this is one album no Carlin fan should be without."
Hilarious experimentation

"This album is unique to Carlin in that rather than nonstop stand-up recorded live, it is interspersed with commercials, interviews and game shows written and run by George, as if you're flipping through an all-Carlin TV set. It's somewhat reminiscent of his old radio/character comedy. The language is filthy, as usual, but the concepts are more lighthearted and inoffensive than his material on "You Are All Diseased" and "Complaints and Greivances". There's more observation and wordplay than satire on this one, and by this point in his career the wordplay is unrivaled.
Not quite as good as some of the other albums with straight, recorded-live-all-at-once formats, but I'm glad George is willing to experiment with all angles of humor."
Comedy..If you can Find It

"This is Carlin before he became complicated. This is just his goofy material. Stuff about stuff, rice krispies, and having a nice day make me teary-eyed with laughter. Great comedy! If you can find it. This album consists mostly of so-so studio material. the Game show bit is probably his worst, along with Fourth Announcements (Fog Retrival League?). However, The book club and the 1st through 4th announce ments are very funny! G\reat comedy.. If you can find it!"
