Synopsis

Album Description
After his critically acclaimed debut, Alone, George returns with a hard blowing session with special guest Joe Lovano, his one time Berklee classmate. Recorded live to 2-Track, the joy and musical respect between George and Joe transends the atypical 'tenor battle' and George demonstrates why Michael Brecker calls him "The True Tenor Master".

WHAT THE WORLD NEEDS

"Let Garzone team up with another one of the jazz world's leading tenorists, Joe Lovano, and you have pure magic. On this album, consisting of six Garzone originals, a beautiful ballad by Sara Holtzchue and two standards (Have You Met... and In A Sentimental...), George Garzone really shows why many other jazz musicians call him The true master. The interplay with Lovano and the rest of the band is great fun to listen to, the music and ideas are flowing, back and forth, there is a looseness to the playing here that is so right! With a killer rhythm section, comprised of Joey Calderazzo, John Lockwood and Bill Stewart, this one is smokin'! And although this is a cooker album, there is so much love and beauty in the playing of all involved, it's going to please not only the most hardcore jazz fans. The fun everybody has surely shines through. The melodic statements on Garzone's wonderful tunes get really strong when played in unison by Garone and Lovano, and you are going to love the cooking on "One Time", the loose, latin-ish romp on Garzone's intriguing "Tutti Italiani", the contrapuntal line on "Have You Met Miss Jones", the mellowness on "In Memory Of Leanne Nichols", the really cool melody and slow swing/double time changes on "The Mingus That I Knew", The power of "Four's and Two's", the beauty conveyed in "To My Papa", the soprano fun in "Snow Place Like Home", including some exceptional soloing by pianist Calderazzo, and finally, the tenor duet version of "In A Sentimental Mood", rounding everything perfectly off. This is an amazing album!"
Absolute genius!

"This CD is incredible, especially Garzone's countermelody on Have You Met Miss Jones. As great as George's tenor playing is, to me, his true voice is on soprano, where his ideas are just unbelievable. It does not get any better than Joe Lovano, but George shines even more than Joe here. A true master, George Garzone is someone every jazz fan must check out."
